Saturday, August 12th at 4PM we’ll have another in our “Movie Matinee” series. Snacks will be provided. The video will be shown in the fellowship hall. (A classroom adjoining the fellowship hall.) Due to the restrictions on advertisement that the licensing gives, I can’t say here what the title is, or the series. However, I will say that the series is a popular line of kids videos that many adults enjoy as well. Each video has a good lesson to it and are quite entertaining.
This welcome is long overdue. Around January or February, Rev. Ray Bailey started filling in for Rev. Dan Bowers on the second Sunday of each month. After many years of service Rev. Bowers was not in good enough health to continue preaching. Around February/March we officially welcomed Rev. Ray Bailey back as our second Sunday Minister. Ray returns to us, he previously served at our Church from 1984-1994 and we are glad to welcome him back. This change also brings with it a bit of a schedule change. On the second Sunday of the month our service is now at 11AM and Sunday School precedes the service at 10AM.
August 6th will be Homecoming Sunday this year (it’s always the first Sunday in August.) We’ll have a short program with some special songs during the Sunday School hour and a covered dish dinner starting around 12:30 (give or take a bit…) We look forward to seeing familiar faces and new visitors alike.
Pastor Deb Patterson will be holding a bible study based on the book “Invitation to the Old Testament” by Celia Brewer Sinclair and James D. Tabor. The first meeting will be Sunday afternoon, February 19th at 4PM in the Fellowship Hall of Pleasant Grove Union Church. The first meeting had been planned earlier but was postponed due to weather. At the first meeting, plans will be made on whether to keep the Sunday afternoon meeting time for the future meetings, or if another time would be best for the participants. The course is an 8 week study and all are invited.
Rev. Robert E. Harris will hold his annual Revival services the week of Thanksgiving at Pleasant Grove. They will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd) at 7 PM. Also, there will a service Thanksgiving morning (the 24th) at 10 AM. All are invited and welcome to join in worship and thanksgiving.
There will be a meeting at Pleasant Grove Union Church on Wednesday, October 19th from 4PM - 6PM concerning the new Medicare Drug Benefit.
Experts will be available from the Council on Aging, Social Security Administration, SHIIP, and Buncombe Medication Ministry to help you complete the new forms from Social Security, so bring information you may have received.
You may qualify for additional assistance with medication under this new plan.
